| 09.04.2008 | Buffalo Show NOT Cancelled, etc Sorry for the confusion, but the Buffalo NY headline show is not cancelled. The show happened to fall on the same night as the Buffalo stop of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones reunion tour, so the shows were merged. Well, not really merged, so much as they added Streetlight to their bill (support from the SM tour won't be there). All purchased tickets will be refunded (so sorry, but this is out of our hands) and if you want to see SM in Buffalo, go ahead and buy a ticket to see the Bosstones (we'll be there, playing right before them). We'll put the ticket link up as soon as we get it, but be sure to buy your tickets asap, as this will most definitely sell out. Sorry for the confusion and if this causes any problems, but it is indeed for the best in the long run, and not for nothing, but playing with the Bosstones has been a dream of at least one or two Streetlighters for a long, long time. Also, The Fear Nuttin Band will be replacing HiFi Handgrenades on the Streetlight tour. See you at the shows! |
| 09.03.2008 | Hello Again Sorry we missed last week's update, juggling lots of things now before our upcoming tours (!) so things are hectic here at SMHQ. So, here's the most recent news: One of the most common requests we get via our site is from fans (of our band, or music in general) asking if they can get a photo pass to shoot us live. Now you can. Kind of. For all upcoming shows we will be allowing a small number of semi-pro or aspiring photogs to get in front of the barricades and onto the side of the stage to shoot their til their little heads explode. There are, of course, a few stipulations. Well, two: You must be at least 18 and you must have some sort of online portfolio (confirmable to be you, ie flickr etc) with decent photos on it (no noobs!). We will be accepting between 1 and 3 photogs per show. Write in to photog (at) streetlightmanifesto (dot) com with your full name, your age, your online portfolio, and your equipment list and if you hear back from us, you're in. If you don't hear from us (we get TONS of email, sorry!), please try again next time we're coming through your town. We figure this will be a nice way to foster up and coming photographers who normally don't get a chance to get up close at shows. Just be sure to get our good sides. Next up: HiFi Hand Grenades are off of the US leg of the 4OO7I3B9 Tour, because, uhm, not really sure exactly why, but check their site for details. They just cancelled all of their upcoming tours. We were looking forward to playing with them nightly, but alas, it was not to be. Their replacement should be announced here in a day or three, as soon as we get confirmation. Lastly, we're going to make up for missing last week's update (by the way, some of you are just plain mean) by announcing some particularly interesting/big news right here and on the Pentimento Site next Tuesday. Remember, unless it comes from our site, it's probably misinformed (and embarrassingly so). Later! |
| 08.20.2008 | Tuesday, Wednesday, La Di Da So! A few things to mention: 1) Tomas will be guest DJ'ing Sirius Channel 29 (the Punk Rock Channel) sometime in September. It's been recorded but won't be airing for another month or so. He'll be playing some of his favorite punk rock tunes, commenting on them and in general sounding uncomfortable and awkward. Giant ego and solo career to follow. Hurrah. B) Thanks to all you non-Americano's who wrote in with more languages for our international welcome sites. They will be posted shortly. Link again. Which brings us to: III) We have a new European booking agent! Ian over at Hidden Talent Booking will be handling our upcoming overseas tour. We may even be planning a mainland European tour as we speak. Maybe. Maybe not. Oooh, mysterious! Four) So some of the ticket counts for the US leg of the 4OO7I3B9 tour are in and, once again, we're warning you: Some/many of the shows will sell out. Some are on track for selling out freakishly in advance. If you live in the City of Angels, you should definitely buy your ticket soon. If you live in Omaha, you don't have to worry about a thing. Not regarding the show at least; you are free to worry about other things. Gas prices, for one. And Scientology. Definitely worry about Scientology. Creeps. |
| 08.12.2008 | Not Entirely SM Related, But Neat and Flattering Nonetheless So Alternative Press are running a feature in their upcoming issue (September, October, I have no idea, I never got why they date issues like 3 years ahead) regarding the.. well, here, the title says it all: "The Class of '98: A Look Back at 10 Albums That Shaped the Punk of Today". Lo and behold, guess which SM-related record happens to be one of the ten (and no, it has nothing to do with cigar smoking cats): That's right, Catch 22's Keasbey Nights, son! Not sure how deserving the record is of this title, but what the hell, chalk up another one for the underdog. Six kids had just graduated high school and were thrown into a NYC recording studio for 7 days to record and mix their first full length. For better or worse, Keasbey Nights was born. Now we just have to grow out our emo-do's, borrow our sisters pants, and do that "one guy screams, the other guy interrupts him with singing about daggers and bleeding eyes" thing thing and we can get on next months cover! Success awaits! |
| 08.05.2008 | Aw, You Wacky Foreigners! So it's no secret that we Streetlighters love, love, love traveling abroad. Between sleeping on strangers' tile floors in the dead of a Norwegian winter and the constant verbal abuse we endure for apparently single handedly electing a bona fide hillbilly (no, really, it was the seven broke musicians sleeping under your coffee table that pushed the vote in bobo's direction, thanks for asking), we just can't get enough of seeing the world and playing for as many people that sing along phonetically as possible. We seriously love it. From day one, we've used our opportunities to travel with Streetlight to the fullest. And as much as we love touring our home country, we like to look at the world as our home as well, and therefore we are trying to share our noises today with the introduction of Streetlight's international pages. The pages are our little greeting to people who may have heard of us but don't know our music. Just type www.streetlightmanifesto.com into your browser, then follow it with a forward slash and the two letter international code of your language. Then hit enter. Or, go here and select your language from the menu at the foot of the streetlight image. If your language isn't listed, why don't you do something about it, lazyface? Click on the English version (that's EN) and translate it, then send it in to us. And we will check it in a translation program, so no funny business. Languages we're still missing are Chinese, Croatian, Finnish, Hungarian, Norwegian, Polish, and Swedish (but we'll take any language really). Get to work! The sites have some photos, a link to our first video and 9 full length mp3s (3 from each album). Yes, we know there are some kinks when viewed in Internet Explorer, we're working on them. Or, how about you just get a real browser? Just saying.. If you would like to help us get to more/your countries (instead of just writing us angrily demanding why we are not "coming in" your country (looking at you, frenchies ;-) please hop on your local countries music forums or music news sites and drop the language url on 'em, let them know there's free music to be had and hope for the best. We don't have much of anything by the way of official promotion behind us (that's a can of worms best left for another day) so we've always had to do everything ourselves and rely on the word of mouth of music loving individuals such as yourselves. And, in all seriousness, we thank you so much for your help from day one until today. That's it for today. Well, kinda: one more thing... At the risk of sounding sappy, we just want you all to know how excited we are to get back on the road. It's funny how much a part of our lives touring, playing music live and doing what we do in SM has become. We genuinely miss the shows and we cannot wait to get back onto the stage this October. We have many (hopefully) awesome things planned for the next year or so (at least), so see you at the shows! Hopefully only at the shows though, you guys are creepy! (Sorry, had to, was getting a little too cheesey for a minute there.) |
| 07.30.2008 | Tour Poster Artwork for 4OO7I3B9 Tour The artwork for the 4OO7I3B9 Tour is up on Pentimento's site. Check it out. If you live in Japan, Australia, the US or the UK and you don't come to a show, then the terrorists have finally won. And that's sad. |
| 07.29.2008 | Tuesday! Despite being promised a few months ago, we finally got around to uploading our music video for "We Will Fall Together" in HD to the intertubes. Join us in cursing the dreaded YouTube and embracing actual high quality video on the nets. Indeed! Click here to view the greatest pirate metaphor of 2007. That's it for now. Not necessarily it for all of the day, but for now. There may or may not be another posting later today. It all depends on whether or not someone gets their act together. Do it. Do it, now. Please. Also! The mysterious October 14th tour date has been confirmed. It'll be none other than the Sokol Underground, in Omaha, Nebraska. To everyone who wrote in kindly (and occasionally hysterically) to ask if we could make it to their town on the mystery date, we're very sorry, but as we mentioned earlier, we will be back on the road in the US and Canada in very early '09, to finish off what we started. Good night! |
| 07.21.2008 | Hi There, You. So we've been getting quite a few emails lately inquiring about Team Streetlight. As you may or may not have noticed, we're taking our time off from touring to get all of our ducks in a row or whatever it is people say when they mean get things organized and done so that they can get back to tour with a clear conscience because not too much time was wasted and also because some Streetlight fans (not pointing fingers, but that's only because this is the internet so we can't actually point fingers, but yeah, YOU) demand that we fill them in on every little detail of our sad, sad lives. Well, we're not going to do that. We'd rather pretend we have exciting, rock and roll type lives and leave you none the wiser. Or something. I digress. So today, news regarding Team Streetlight: It's awesome. Or at least it will be. Hopefully. We are working hard on it and hoping it'll bring a smile to your face. Or a smirk. A sneer, whatever, we're easy. It'll be a way for us to give back to you guys for all the years of support and love. (Cue sappy music) One thing I will mention regarding TS: At most shows, we are painfully reminded of our lackluster social lives by the emptiness of the Streetlight guest list (except when we play NJ, because our parents come out to see us, so our guest list looks packed until you notice most of the names are half the same as ours. Except Soprano, because his mom is awesome and she still buys tickets. How cool is that?) And pretty often at SM shows, if the show is sold out, one of us heads out to the line outside and gives out a few unused guest list spots to fans that can't get in. How generous, we know, we know. We figure if we're kind to others we won't get robbled again. Anyway, we got to thinking And, also, the ticket links for Phoenix and Buffalo are up. And finally: Dark Knight sucked! I'm that one guy! Christian Bale's Batman voice sounds like a constipated ogre. Get over it. Kilmer!!! And yes, once Team Streetlight launches, these late night, soon-to-be-realized-to-be-embarrassing posts will probably be moved over there. This space will be once again reserved for empty promises. And unicorns. |
| 07.17.2008 | Links! So most of the ticket-buy links are up for the US shows, on the tour page to the right of what you're reading right now. A few of the UK dates have popped up there as well, including the link for the London show at the Underworld, which is very likely to sell out, so please, do us both a favor and buy your tickets ahead of time. We want you at the show, maybe even more than you want to be at the show. We're lonely. Very, very lonely. :'-( |
| 07.15.2008 | Easy, Easy... My, my, aren't we all a little excitable today! With friends like these... Anyway, the PMC site is on track for launching today. Yes, today. As in Tuesday, the 15th of July, 2008. So relax, brother-man. Alternately, you could go outside. It's really a beautiful day. Really. It is, fatty. Go look. Not much news to report regarding SM today, but the PMC site will have pretty hefty SM news in a week or two. Let's just say something that was promised years ago is finally climbing the diving board ladder. Cannonball! Also, all the dates for the US leg of the 4OO7I3B9 tour are up, save but one we're still waiting on. Ticketmaster should have ticket links up now; we will have those links up on our site in a few days if you're that lazy. Or your keyboard might be broken or whatever. But you're probably just lazy. We miss touring. That is all. |
| 07.08.2008 | First Official Tuesday News Posting OK, so to prevent confusion and to simplify things a bit here's the deal: We will try our best to post SM (and related) news primarily on Tuesdays. Throughout the week, randomly, we may post a blurb or two, but we'll try our best to reserve the bigger stuff for the day after Monday (or late, late Monday night. Since we like to sleep in. You know, since we're lazy, deadbeat no-good musicians and all. Don't judge us. Shut up.) This way you know you can check in once a week for the most recent news. Or whatever. So, today we have this: A) Direct support for Leg One of the 4OO7I3B9 tour will be provided by the HiFi Handgrenades (preceded by The Swellers and they by The AKA's) B) The Pentimento Music Company goes official on Tuesday, July 15th, with the launch of its website and more information about the shady, shady organization that is RISC. Ooooooohhhhh! C) Poking around the interwebs the other day, we came upon, nay, discovered, a new site that D) Speaking of which, remember to VOTE CAMACHO THIS NOVEMBER! Because, God damn it, IT'S INEVITABLE! E) Oh yeah, more dates posted... |
| 07.02.2008 | Click! New photos added to the, uhm, photos section. If you have any good quality (as in not your camera phone) shots of the sm boys, feel free to send in a link to them (via flickr, etc... do not send in the files please) and we will slap em up on this here site if we deem them awesome. That is all. |
| 07.01.2008 | Tour Dates Are A Go! Ok then, tour dates are up. Still a few TBA's in there, but they should be coming in in the next few days. Once again, this is just the first half of the US tour, hold back on the angry emails until later this year when we post the rest of the tour (on the road in Jan/Feb '09). And yes, we are intentionally leaving out your home town, because we hate you. Just you. It's all about avoiding you. |
| 07.01.2008 | 4 OUT OF 7 IN 3 BEFORE 9 TOUR! Well, that's what it's called, so get used to it. The 4 Out Of 7 In 3 Before 9 Tour starts in the US on October 8th in New York and ends on the 19th of October in California. Legs two and three see us in Australia for about a week, followed by about a week in Japan, both in November. Then, finally, December brings us about 2 weeks worth of UK shows, to round out the year. Tea time, em effers! Never before have we traversed so much of the earth so quickly, so cross your fingers, knock on your wood or whatever it is you do, so that we may somehow survive the whole damn thing. Stay tuned for details on the cities and venues (as we confirm them, we post them), more info on the tour, tour artwork, etc etc in the coming days. And to those of you who are about to write us about how much you hate our guts for skipping your city: chill winston, we're on the way. Come '09, we will be hitting the road again in the first few weeks of January to finish up the US states we will miss in October. Shortly after that, we plan on invading mainland Europe. By that point we figure we'll have covered every possible corner of the world... or will there be more? Fuck yes, indeed, there will be more. Also, Dan Potthast will be tailing us through Australia, Japan and the UK again. Does anyone know how to get rid of this guy? Please advise. |
| 06.29.2008 | Rumors Abound! Once again we have to dispel some silly rumors about Streetlight. We've been getting emails asking about the following, so here are the facts: 1) We are not releasing an album on October 28th this year. I know it comes from a "good source" but, as we've said in the past, the only source for accurate Streetlight info is right here. We're just as confused by this rumor as you guys (well, maybe a little less confused, but more on that later. As in "a few months from now" later) 2) We are not coming to the UK soon with "insert-band-name-here", nor are we playing this year's Leeds/Reading Festival. No idea how these rumors started, and we truly appreciate the enthusiasm from our tea-sipping friends, but once again, if you hear it from anywhere besides right here, it's probably not true. Also, in other news: We're terribly sorry we can't do more all ages shows in Australia this time around. It's not within our power to change this (and boy do you guys have some strange all-ages laws..). We feel fortunate to be coming down under at all, so quickly after the last time. Hopefully next time will see more all ages shows. Lastly, if you happen to live in Japan, the Japanese tour dates are coming through. Look to the right! If you're more interested in things like new tour dates, come back on Tuesday. Yes, tomorrow. Trust us. |
| 05.23.2008 | A Few Fourteen Hour Flights Later... Australia! Japan! We're coming over! It's true, this October and November we'll be headed to the other side of the world again, first to return to Oz (less than a year later!) for a headlining tour (full sets!), then, FINALLY, after years of touring everywhere else, we are headed over to Japan for the first time. Suffice it to say, we're ecstatic. Dates for the Australian shows are up now, with the Japanese details to follow. Next up on our to-do lists: Team Streetlight! |
| 05.19.2008 | Post Tour Wrap Up We've survived! Somehow we made it through what had proven to be our most difficult tour so far. The shows were awesome, amazing, the turnouts were huge, you guys were great, we had a blast playing live as usual and all that. But as you may have heard we were bombarded with one tragedy after another. First and foremost, Jim is healthy again, although two teeth lighter and one huge hospital bill heavier. Special thanks go out to Adam Jackson, Zox's sound guy, for filling in on the tenor sax for a few days while Jim was in the hospital. Our beloved motor home, our home on the road for the last two years finally died a quiet death somewhere in Indiana this tour as well. We spent the last two weeks in a rented minivan (soccer mom style!) and a rented uHaul truck. Classy, we know. Somehow we made it to all the shows and didn't have to cancel a single one. In between all this, we had some chipped teeth, keys locked inside vehicles, nightly equipment meltdowns, and countless other misfortunes. But as mentioned, luckily, the shows were amazing. Thanks to all who came out. In Chicago, we raffled off Tomas' acoustic guitar to one Shaun Rangel. We managed to raise $720 for the Crohns and Colitis Foundation of America via the guitar and another raffle the night before for one of Dan Potthast's paintings, and we here at Streetlight will be doubling that amount out of our pockets to make the total contribution to the organization $1440. We were going to do another charity event before the end of the tour, but all of our misfortunes piled up and we could barely limp past the finish line. Next time! And speaking of next time: We're already planning our next few months. Well, the next few we'll be laying low, preparing, maybe even locking ourselves in rooms with microphones, we'll see. But come fall, we will be back out in full force, touring our asses off. Coincidentally, we're sitting on some awesome, AWESOME information that will be announced here in a day or three regarding some more overseas touring, this time including a country that pretty much all of SM have been DYING to go to since day one... See you in a few days! |
| 05.02.2008 | Bamboozle! For those of you that will be attending Bamboozle tomorrow, we will be playing our set at the NowWhat.com stage (Main Stage B) at 2:30PM. Later in the day, Tomas will be doing an acoustic set on the Bamboozle TV Studio stage at 7:45PM. See you there! |
| 04.25.2008 | Hard Times, Ups and Downs Wow. In the 24 hours following our Pittsburgh show, fate took a wrong turn for us. En route to the next show in Detroit, our motor home broke down. And we mean really, really broke down. Just short of exploding, the RV was useless on the side of the road, and we're all lucky to have not died in the accident that we luckily prevented due to the empty early morning highway. We got towed and managed to find a van rental place in the middle of nowhere and got on our way to Detroit, with about 2 hours of sleep between the 10 of us. When we got to Detroit, Jim, our tenor saxist and main secondary vocalist, realized the facial infection he was nursing was too serious to ignore any longer. In Pensacola, FL a week back, a kid jumped up on stage and hit his mic, which in turn slammed Jim's sax into his mouth. Somehow, the wound got infected on his gum, which ballooned half his face up with swelling the size of a grapefruit. Despite a round of antibiotics, it got worse, to the point where half of his face was practically paralyzed by the time we reached Detroit. He immediately went to the hospital, where we learned it was serious (they put him on morphine immediately) and he had to stay for surgery to remove a tooth and drain the abscess. We had to leave him in the hospital for a few days and, unfortunately, continue the tour without him. Now anyone that's seen us live, especially recently, knows how important Jim is to our live show, both vocally and as a horn player. We had to redistribute his vocal/horn lines among the remaining members and pair down which songs we are able to play (we're doing a bit more off of Numb because of this). Point of the story is, please cross your fingers and say a prayer or two for Jim and a quick recovery. We're not sure when he'll be able to rejoin the tour, so until he does, we're a six-peice. |
| 04.22.2008 | Help Us Help Events, PART 1 The Help Us Help Foundation (Risc's fledgling charity wing) will be hosting two Streetlight related events on the 41 Days, 41 Nights of Tour: First, there will be a raffle at the May 6th Chicago show at the Metro for Tomas' acoustic mini guitar. The raffle tickets will cost one dollar at the merch table, and there will be no limit to how many tickets any individual can buy (the more you donate, the better your chances of winning are). Then, during Streetlight's set that night, the band will choose the winning ticket number and invite the winner onstage to receive the prize. As for the prize, Tomas says: "This is my baby. I bought the guitar specifically for the road right around our second tour, because it was small and portable and sounded great for its size. It's been through hell, and has been on every Streetlight tour until this last one and it's followed me on vacations, on trips, pretty much everywhere I've been for the last few years... It was left behind on the floor of our van when we were robbed (making it a perfect prize for a HUH benefit, since that robbery planted the seeds of HUH). Many of the songs on the new record (and a few other records) were written on this little guy, usually while driving or sitting backstage. I've dropped it a few times and there are parts that are patched up with duct tape, but as far as physical objects that are intertwined with Streetlight history, this guitar is responsible for bringing forth most of our new music. Although the sentimentalist in me hates to see it go, it's my honor to give it away in a way that helps a meaningful charity and brings some attention to a terrible disease." The entire band will autograph the guitar prior to the giveaway. All proceeds from the raffle will go to The Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. The second event is yet to be announced. Stay tuned, as it will be up in a few days. Thanks. |
| 04.12.2008 | Ta-Daa! Hello and welcome to our brand new home on the web! We're still moving in so please be patient as we add more and more content and information to our site. If you have any questions about the site, any problems with how it works, etc, please let us know, as it is still a work in progress. We're currently on the road on the 41 Days & 41 Nights of Tour with Zox and Dan Potthast. Also making appearances on select dates will be Rick Johnson, The Johnstones, The Supervillains and somehow we were able to pull the legendary MU330 out of semi-hibernation for the last two shows of the run, which should be amazing for all in attendance. Despite going out on the road every summer for the last few years, we will be taking some time off from touring after this one, so if you want to see Streetlight live any time before late 2008, this tour is the one to go to. See you at the shows! Also, if you happen to be a Streetlight fan from the great country of Japan, or if you speak Japanese, please email us. We could use your help.. Check back often, as new stuff will be popping up all the time now, and news will be more frequent. Seriously. |
